What is Sender Score?
A 0 to 100 reputation rating that estimates how trustworthy a sending IP address looks to mailbox providers.
Sender Score is a reputation metric, popularized by Validity, that grades a sending IP address on a 0 to 100 scale based on roughly the last 30 days of sending behavior. It is derived from signals like complaint rates, spam-trap hits, bounce rates, unsubscribe activity, and blacklist appearances, then expressed as a percentile-style ranking against other senders. A higher score correlates with better inbox placement, though mailbox providers ultimately rely on their own internal reputation systems rather than Sender Score directly.
Why it matters for cold email
For cold email, a sending IP's Sender Score is an early warning gauge: a score drifting below roughly 80 usually signals rising complaints or trap hits that will soon translate into spam-foldering. Monitoring it lets you throttle or pause sending before mailbox providers harden against your domain and IP.
