What is NS Record (Name Server Record)?
A DNS record that delegates a domain to the authoritative name servers responsible for its zone.
NS records specify which name servers hold the authoritative DNS data for a domain or subdomain, delegating control of that zone. Every domain has NS records at the registrar and at the parent zone, and queries for the domain's MX, TXT, A, and other records are directed to those servers. Changing NS records moves DNS hosting and can take time to take effect based on TTLs.
Why it matters for cold email
Your authentication records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and MX live in the zone served by your NS records, so pointing NS at the wrong provider or a slow, unreliable DNS host can make those records invisible to receivers. That silently breaks authentication and tanks cold-email deliverability even when the records themselves are correct.
