What is Personalization?

Tailoring an email's content to the individual recipient using their attributes or context rather than sending an identical message to everyone.

Personalization replaces generic copy with recipient-specific details such as first name, company, role, or a researched trigger event, typically inserted through merge tags at send time. Surface-level personalization swaps in a name or company, while deep personalization references something specific to the prospect, like a recent funding round or a job posting. Effective personalization also makes each rendered message slightly different from the next.

Why it matters for cold email

Personalization is the single biggest lever on cold-email reply rates, because relevance is what earns a response from a stranger. It also aids deliverability: messages that vary per recipient and prompt genuine replies look less like bulk blasts to spam filters and build positive engagement signals.
