What is Single Opt-In?
A subscription method that adds a recipient to a list immediately after signup with no email confirmation step.
Single opt-in adds an address to the active mailing list the moment it is submitted, without a confirmation email. It maximizes list growth and reduces friction but admits typos, fake addresses, and spam traps that never get filtered out. Lists built this way generally carry higher bounce and complaint rates than double opt-in lists.
Why it matters for cold email
Cold email lists are effectively a riskier form of single opt-in, with no consent at all, so the failure modes are the same but amplified: invalid addresses, traps, and complaints. Recognizing those risks is why cold senders lean hard on verification and slow warmup to compensate for the missing confirmation step.
