What is Snowshoe Spam?
A spam technique that spreads sending across many IP addresses and domains to keep any single one below reputation-based detection thresholds.
Snowshoe spamming distributes a campaign's volume thinly over a large pool of IPs and domains, the way a snowshoe spreads weight over snow, so no individual sender accrues enough bad reputation to trip volume-based filters. Operators often use many low-reputation subdomains that are frequently rotated, along with short-lived infrastructure. Spam filters and blocklists such as Spamhaus specifically hunt for these fan-out patterns rather than judging IPs one at a time.
Why it matters for cold email
Cold email at scale across multiple inboxes and domains can structurally resemble snowshoe spam, so the same fan-out that boosts volume can get a whole sending pool flagged. Keeping consistent authentication, warming each domain and IP, and maintaining real engagement is what distinguishes legitimate multi-inbox sending from snowshoe patterns.
