What is Click Tracking?
Measuring link clicks by rewriting URLs to route through a redirect server that logs the click before forwarding the recipient.
Click tracking replaces the destination URLs in an email with wrapped links that point at a tracking server; when clicked, the server records the event and then redirects the recipient to the real page. This gives accurate per-link, per-recipient click data but changes how links appear and adds a redirect hop. If the tracking domain is shared and poorly reputed, the wrapped links themselves can trip spam filters or domain blocklists.
Why it matters for cold email
Clicks are a stronger intent signal than opens, but link-wrapping is a double-edged sword for cold email: a blocklisted or mismatched tracking domain in the URL can send the whole message to spam. Cold senders who enable click tracking should serve it from a clean custom tracking domain, or omit link tracking entirely on plain-text-style outreach to keep the message footprint minimal.
