What is Custom Tracking Domain?
A branded domain or subdomain you own, pointed at your ESP's tracking host, used to serve open pixels and click-redirect links under your own name.
A custom tracking domain is configured by adding a CNAME record on a subdomain (for example track.yourdomain.com) that points to the sending platform's tracking infrastructure. Open-tracking pixels and rewritten click links then load from your domain instead of a shared vendor domain used by thousands of other senders. This isolates your tracking reputation and prevents a blacklisted shared domain from sinking your links.
Why it matters for cold email
Shared ESP tracking domains are frequently abused by other users and end up on blocklists, and a single blocklisted link in your message can route the whole email to spam. For cold email, configuring a custom tracking domain (ideally on a subdomain of, or matching, the sending domain) keeps link reputation under your control and makes URLs look consistent and trustworthy to filters.
